AND IT SHOULD NOT TAKE TOOLS TO CHANGE A FLIPPIN HEADLAMP!!!!!

At least I had gloves this time so my hands aren't covered in salt.

Try changing a battery on a civic when it's 4 bellow 0, at night, on the side of a road.

I'm pretty sure there was legislation introduced a couple of years ago that would have made inaccessible headlights, etc. illegal in new cars.

This is the time of year I pay a dealer for repairs.

AND I WORK AT ONE.

I just discovered a high idle yesterday. Could be an out of adjustment or bad throttle control switch, could be idle stabilization valve, idle stabilization unit, wiring between any of the components, or a vacuum leak.

It's supposed to be 50F on Sat. It can wait.

The access panels for my headlight bulbs are in the damn fender wells. In my Focus I had to take the whole grille off and then remove the headlight assembly. Not fun.

That sucks too. Glad you didn't get hit.

Then you should not have a car new enough to require tools.

Why do they do this?!?! At least I only had to do two screws and yank it out of the hidden clamp.

My T/A needed tools to change headlights, come to think of it.

Hmm. I don't remember changing headlights. Just rebuilding the assembly so they'd flip up and stay up. Poor thing had a wink for awhile.

It's better than the battery in the fender well of the Sebring, Stratus, Avenger, etc.. Those are a pain in the ass.

You both need to start buying RWD cars …. plenty of room in the engine to spread things out.

If it's holding at a very specific, rounded idling point (like exactly 2000RPM or 2500RPM), then it might be a failsafe on the TPS.

Other than that, it's usually a vac leak (unless your MAF/MAP/whatever up and died on you).

Also, because I like to spread around what little knowledge I have, does the problem come/go depending on engine temp, or is it constant? If it depends on engine temp, Coolant Temp Sensor and O2 sensor(s) should be examined as well (after, of course, scouring the car for vac leaks).

The battery in one of my daughter's bonneville is beneath the rear seat. Ya ever try to even get to the rear seat of a teenager's car?

Right now I'm hoping campus security doesn't bust me for smoking in my car. Damn smoke free campus. It's college! We're all adults. :/

Totally depends on temp. Once it warms up a little it shoots straight to 2K.

Saturday, I'm going to attack the easy shit and hope it's not the ISV 'cause they expensive, or vacuum because they're a pain in the ass.

I'm hoping for TPS, lose wire, or dirty connectors. (fingers crossed)

The fact that it sits steadily at a round number suggests (but certainly doesn't guarantee) that you are experiencing the failsafe on one of your critical sensors. Since it waits to warm up, I'd assume it's one of the sensors that, well, cares about the temperature of the engine (read: CTS or O2).

I know on my car, if I pull the TPS plug, the RPM rockets up to 2500 and holds there (which I assume is a function of the Idle Air Control Valve opening all the way, and the ECU feathering the injectors with just the right amount of fuel to hold it there).

I'm not sure what you're driving, but a quick Google for your engine followed by "Holds at 2000 RPM" might point you to the problem...or it might be the usual circle-jerk that comes with searching for auto advice on the internet.

Anyway, good luck.

I'm now over a year smoke free, but I don't care if people want a cig while on campus. Yet NKU spent huge money making it a smoke free campus.

I know of a couple cars where you have to remove the front bumper/facia to replace headlight bulbs - tragic.
